This listing is for a contemporary (1980s or 90s) Japanese han (half-width) maru-style obi. Maru obi are the most formal style of obi with patterning on both sides (which makes it more expensive). See video below to learn more about the different types of obi.

This obi features pairs of chrysanthemums twinned all along the panel with reversed colors creating a checkerboard effect. Adding to the subtle design are the long, thin wavy black lines that flow under and over the blossoms for an almost "woven" effect. But step back a bit to see that the black lines are the wavering tatewaku motif.

11' long and 8" wide. Excellent condition.
