This listing is for a rare fine indeed - a very heavy indigo cotton jacket woven for warmth and weight.  The original owner claimed that it came from Sado Island, across the water from Niigata, but there are not tags or other indicators of its origin.

The construction is simple but took strong hands and fingers to sew the stiff weaving at the seams.  The threads - dark indigo blue alternates with a light tan - are quite thick cotton.

Unfortunately, there are two areas of damage - seemingly it was torn by mistake, caught on a sharp edge - one at the left shoulder and another on the lower right front edge.

Perhaps a creative artisan would repair these with an embellishment... Sold as-is - still an amazing collector piece as a strikingly rustic treasure.

The sleeves are tapered - you can see how the square sleeve was folded and stitched to the rest of the sleeve. You'll be amazed at the hand stitching that created the seams.
