This listing is a vintage Japanese folding fan (sensu in Japanese). See videos below on how the paper version of these fans are made - it's quite an elaborate and precise process.

This fan is a painted beauty, with a delcately painted dragonfly (tombo in Japanese) perched on a blade of green grass.  There are more blades of grass even more subtly painted and shimmering with silver. The crisp folds of this fan seem to create movement and dimension to the imagery. Thin lines in blues, greens, and yellows sweep across the fan behind the grasses, which gives the scene even more movement.

Comes in its original box with the name of the Kyoto shop it came from.
