This listing is a vintage Japanese folding fan (sensu in Japanese). See videos below on how the paper version of these fans are made - it's quite an elaborate and precise process.

This fan was once white, we suspect, but that was many decades ago. The white is not firmly tan, and there are blemishes form age, including a slight tear in the fold at one end.

The kanji characters are difficult to translate - we can only make out the characters for "August", but we don't know what year or what was celebrated.

The back side is plain, but of course also discolored. The side spokes are made from spotted bamboo, a unique type of bamboo that has a mottled sort of coloring.

This fan has a cool "antique" vibe.
