This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner.

The lining of this man's kimono jacket features a bucolic scene of a small house - perhaps a mill of some sort? - with a huge water wheel turning in a flowing creek. The house has a thatched roof; the sun seems to be shining through a morning mist. The brushstrokes are refined and the arttwork is signed on the bottom left side.

There is an issue with the lining on one sleeve - see last photo. The fabric has split at the top.  It is sold as-is but if the buyer would like us to attempt to fix it, call or email us before purchasing.

The outer jacket is black silk with five "crossed feather" crests.

We display these haori inside out to feature the lining when it is unique. All of the stitching is hidden, so these jackets can normally be displayed or worn (in the West, at least) either way.

If you need a display rod to hang your purchase, we offer 60" wooden rods in four colors - see tab below.

See video below for how haori are worn these days.
