This listing is for a vintage Japanese underkimono.

This is an underkimono - called a juban - and is meant to be worn beneath a kimono, sort of like a slip. Juban make great robes or casual tunic layers because they tend to be shorter than regular kimono and more easily belted.

The background color is a soft pastel periwinkle and the shibori design is a darker version with, perhaps, a bit more blue. Those diamond shapes and leaves actually combine to create the shippo motif, an auspicious design that refers to Bhuddism's "seven treaures".

There is still some pucker to the shibori and the silk itself has a nubbiness in the weave.

The thin, silk collar would have been folded over and covered with an over-collar appropriate for the occasion or to compliment the over kimono.

We do offer hanging rods for displaying kimono - add one from the tab below if desired. If you'd like to wear this kimono with a traditional obi, browse our Obi For Sale page; or for a more casual look, add a Simple Sash at check out.

See video below for how to put on a kimono and how the shibori technique is done.
