This listing is for a vintage Japanese kimono dyed with indigo.

This is a summer kimono (unlined and light weight silk) with an ethereal, almost water-color effect to the patterning.  At first we thought it was woven with the ikat technique, where the silk threads are dyed before weaving so that the pattern emerges on the loom. But looking more closely we think it was brush-dyed to create this ikat look.  The "fuzzy edges" look is much valued in Japan because it is a fascinating and time-consuming process that takes great skill from many artisans.

The blue tones range from very light to a medium blue. And the silk has a sheen and very slight nubbiness.
