"Fan Formal Tomesode " Woman's Kimono - $200
ITEM NUMBER:0808WK19

Elegant example of the formal kimono typically worn by the mother, aunt or grandmother of the bride or groom. Note the five crests, and the thin white trim at the collar. the design itself is quite special as well - an intricate, hand-drawn series of plum blossoms, folding fans, and a faux kanako shibori, associated with Kyoto. Wonderful gold leaf accent at the borders, and the pattern sweeps onto the inner lining panels, which, of course, are never seen by the public.

"Indigo and Ivy " Woman's Kimono - $250
ITEM NUMBER:0709WK6

Almost an antique, this deep, deep indigo blue chirimen crepe silk is in excellent condition - quite wearable - , especially considering it may be almost 100 years old Signs of that age include the small and subtle patterning at the hem that continues around to the inside lining panels, as well as the bright red lining that peeks out at the sleeves. The design is of patterned ivy leaves with blue and green accents but also features a tiny red-crested crane. Five family crests (butterflies) signify this kimono was created for a formal occasion.

"Garden After Dark" Woman's Furisode Kimono $225
ITEM NUMBER: 1108WWK5

Formal "ball gown" style of the traditional kimono, with typical long sleeves (38") and a somewhat unusual (for a furisode) overall patterning of camillas. Also unusual is the black background, but it does make the floral - especially the white blossoms - really pop forward. The artwork is yuzen style resist dying, noted by the white outline to the florals but the almost-hidden branches that connect the blossoms were painted in afterwards and have no white edges. Masterful! The silk has a lightening jacquard that shows through the imagery.

"Rose Rainbow " Woman's Kimono - $195
ITEM NUMBER:0709WK7

Exquisite example of a contemporary kimono in color and design - perhaps from the 1980's but might be in fashion even now in Japan. A soft mauve color fades to cream behind the floral garden that sweeps across the hem and sleeves. Some design on the front shoulder as well. Silver painted outlining to most of the pattering and a glittery rainbow shimmer paint has been applied to several features. A single crest at the neck belies how formal this kimono seems.

"Men At My Feet " Woman's Kimono - $180

Green is a rare color for a kimono, which gives this gown even more appeal than its elaborate patterning would alone. The overall shibori patterning includes a wonderful pattern change from bamboo leaves to wheeling mums, each with a large puckered white shibori center. The masterful design continues with gold couching outlining many of the mums at the hem and a surprise of embroidery just at the obi line in the front. Quite unusual.

"Pine Away " Woman's Kimono - $200
ITEM NUMBER:0709WK8

An older kurosode (back sleeve) (also called a kosode, or short sleeve) chirimen silk kimono that was actuall an underlayer - suggested in the patterning which appears only on the inside panels of the hem but just barely peeks out at the hem edges. The design is an abtstract leaf pattern in shades of blue, plus stylized pine boughs, each with shaded green gold accent, and don't miss the bamboo as well. Five crests confirm that this was created for a very formal occasion. An older piece but very wearable, in excellent condition.

"Pink Lady" Furisode Kimono $200

Lovely, very feminine floral furisode (long sleeve) kimono with a dark burgundy base at the hem fading to a light pink at the shoulders. And in between are flowing, leafy fronds of pattern and color that draw the eye upwards. Blues, lilac, pinks, and corals combine to create a springtime palette of loveliness. Silver sparkle accents catch the light.41" sleeves

"Golden Tea House" Furisode Kimono $200

Hard to find deep gold color is the background to this contemporary furisode kimono with a sparkle to the design that hints at it's age - perhaps from the 1980's. Wonderfully lively colors in the design of a tea house or retreat nestled among a bouquet of flowers. Designs on the shoulder and one side of each sleeve as well. 44" sleeves and a bit of patterning that appears on the inner lining suggests this was an expensive kimono.

"Golden Fire" Kakeshita Kimono $250

This is actually the underlayer to a bride's ensemble, as shown by the slightly padded hem and dazzling color and patterning. Fully couched florals against a machine embroidered stream and branch pattern - overall a little funky in the color and abstract design. The color was impossible to capture well with the camera - it's bright, but does not "glow" as it seems to in the photos! 44" sleeves.

Ivory cream background with an arched grass textured jacquard behind a playful design of stlylized blossoms couched in gold, some with gold centers. Great combination of secondary colors and a wonderful sweep of patterning across the 39"sleeves and shoulders.

"Shibori Stream" Woman's Kimono - $150

Stunning overall shibori (Japanese tie-dye) in a large, sweeping stream pattern curving and turning across the sleeves and main bodice. Tiny purple-tipped kanoko dots create the "white space" and the deeper purple areas are created with larger shibori gathers. Pine and florals line the banks of this wandering creek.

"Shadowy Beauty" Furisode Kimono $200

There's a wintery feel to this furisode formal kimono where the silvery silk is like snow and the shadowed detail to the floral bunches recalls how the days are shorter. And the bold colors - pink florals and a purple-blue edging to the hemline hillside, pop against that subtle background. An unusual single crest at the neck, and long 44" sleeves.

"Tangerine Dream" Furisode Kimono $200

Don't be fooled by this seemingly simple version of the otherwise heavily patterned furisode. The bright orange color is tempered with the simple rolling hill (or is that a roiling ocean?) pattern in white, but behind that is a double-crane diamond jacquard. And providing the design accent is a series of tightly couched gold embroidery on several of the pattern crests. Just dazzling.

"Beachside Beauty" Furisode Kimono $250

What a striking gown this is! The wide, sweeping ribbons of color -- silver, coral and a seaglass blue-green -- create a solid background and dancing upon it are a mix of florals large and small, shimmering in gold or rainbow tone, and scattered among smaller blossoms cascading from nowhere. Extra long 46" sleeves and several extra inches in each measurement compared to other kimonos. There's a green underlayer at the collar, removable.
