BASIC ITINERARY: We go to Kyoto to shop at the temple markets, learn about Japanese textiles and culture, and tour one of the most beautiful and exotic cities in the world. Yes, we spend the entire time in Kyoto - and it's never long enough. Click here for the general itinerary.

We meet up in Japan (airfare and transportation to/from the airport is on your own but we can help with recommendations). Leave the US on October 17th (arrive in Kyoto on the 18th).

And yes, we spend all ten days in Kyoto! Is it enough? Barely.

What's included?
The in-country cost of $3000 covers:
-6 nights in a western-style hotel (The Palace Side Hotel - a gem in the heart of the city!) - Single rooms
-4 nights at a traditional-style Japanese Inn (Rikiya Ryokan) - we share rooms here
-Three textile-focused workshops of hands-on activities
-Breakfast and one hearty meal per day (except on your three free days)
-Transportation and participation costs for all tour activities
-Gifts for our teachers and guides
-Prep materials and other goodies along the way
The price is based on seven people plus me. We have had larger groups in the past and have learned that fewer is better.

Caution! This trip is not for everyone. If you're flexible, healthy, normally not inclined to travel in groups, and eager to visit Japan - this could be the trip you've been waiting for. Helping everyone have a great trip is a high priority, but hand-holding is at a minimum. You'll have several free days to be on your own to explore in and around Kyoto, so if you're a hesitant traveller, this may not be the trip for you. Additionally, if you have dietary restrictions, physical limitations, or a low tolerance for the unfamiliar, this is really not the trip for you. Click here to review photos and feedback from our previous trips.
Comfort Level : $3000 may seem like a lot of money, but it does not get you ten days of luxury-level comfort in Japan. Accomodation will be clean, convenient and comfortable, but we won't be staying in five-star hotels. We're more interested in making person-to-person connections, so in addition to keeping the trip small, we will have Japanese friends come along on the tours to translate and help out. We will also be happy to help arrange the activities you want to do on your free days. The focus of the trip will be to enjoy Kyoto at a reasonable pace - we can't possibly see it all, so lets be in good spirits and well-rested to enjoy what we can see in the time we have.

Join us in 2011!
