This listing is for a vintage kimono made for a young girl to wear to a formal event, likely the Shich-Go-San Festival. It features a pair of peacocks, with one taking up almost the entire back section, with an embroidered head and crest and sweeping pink feathers. The second bird is almost hidden, perched at the hemline below the feathers. Lots of other auspicious motifs - pine, mums, peonies - in reds, greens, yellow and more. Orange border at the hem and sleeves.

The Shichi-Go-San Festival is a rite-of-passage held on November 15th, when girls and boys aged seven (shichi), five (go) and three (san) go to their local shrine to celebrate their growth and health. This kimono is typical of what a seven-year-old girl would wear.

There are small blemishes on the sleeves - see photos - and this is quite common with light-colored vintage kimono. It is still quite wearable - but please check the measurements against the child to confirm the fit before ordering. Kimono run small and remember that some of the length would be taken up at the waist when belted.

Vintage Japanese children's kimono make eye-catching displays in spaces too small to accomodate a full sized kimono or haori.
