Description

This listing is for a wide, single layer wrap that could be used as a shawl, scarf, or even a decor piece (dresser scarf), made from a vintage Japanese kimono silk. The silk is an example of the meisen ikat-style dyeing and weaving technique that was popular during the Taisho Period (1912-1926). (Ikat is the technique where the threads are dyed before weaving so that the pattern emerges on the loom with those telltale "fuzzy edges" that make it desirable.)

The big, bright, and bold patterning and coloring of this silk is really eye-catching. Huge yellow peonies (botan in Japanese) share the stage with folding fans in white and green, all against a berry red background.

This scarf is the full 14" width and 58" long, with 2" of twisted fringe at each end.
