Description

This listing is for an oshi-e display board. Oshi-e is a traditional Japanese fabric craft that uses padding and fabric to create a three dimensional "pressed picture" with a process that resembles a jigsaw puzzle. The tradition began in the Edo Period and this handicraft is practiced less and less these days.

The design features a little girl in profile against a fan shape in white, bordered in gold. She's wearing an elaborately designed kimono (done with washi paper to simulate fabric). She's carrying a long narrow bag (?) in her left hand.

This board is 5"x5.5" and is matted onto a stiff foamcore so it can be stood up as a table display, and it's quite light so can also be hung with just a little tape.
