Description

This listing is for a traditional vintage furisode kimono originally created for a young, unmarried woman. Furisode are worn for formal events, such as Seijin-no-hi (Coming of Age Day, sometimes translated as Adults Day) in early January. Furisode are also worn for weddings, recitals, receptions, and other celebrations calling for formal attire. Note the long sleeves (furi = long, sode = sleeves) sometimes called "butterfly sleeves", which flow with grace when she gestures, attracting male attention!

This furisode features a very vintage, traditional, feminine pattern of florals that suggests a simpler time... Pink, orange, red and even blue flowers seem to drift and settle in a circular pattern around the arms, across the shoulders, and back around to the hem.

The background color is a soft cream-colored silk with a diamond jacquard pattern. Pink clouds with metallic stenciled florals float behind the bouquets. Look closely to discover very fine embroidered accents.

There is a small blemish on the front collar - see photo - that could be covered with a broach, or would not show at all if the kimono were to be displayed.

The video below shows some beautiful examples of how these are worn traditionally and how the design is created.
