Description

This listing is for a single sleeve from a vintage Japanese formal kimono. It's sad, but sometimes vintage kimono come to us with blemishes that make them unsellable to wear, but we salvage what remains and hope it will find a home with an artisan, crafter, quilter, collector, or Japanophile and offer inspiration for a future project.

This sleeve is from a contemporary (1980s?) shibori kimono that was no doubt made for a formal event. The design was created with the shibori technique ("Japanese tie-dye" - see video below to learn how this complicated dye process is done.), and still has considerable pucker.

The pattern of folding fans sits atop a complicated puckered design - one of the fans is edges with gold couching. The dye work is a subtle ombre that moves from light to dark behind the fans

Lined in white silk with purple silk accent silk sewn to the wrist and arm openings.

12.5" wide and 21" long. (Open up the seams to get two 42" panels.) Silk. Very good condition.
