This listing is for a pair of sleeves from a vintage Japanese formal kimono. It's sad, but sometimes vintage kimono come to us with blemishes that make them unsellable to wear, but we salvage what remains and hope it will find a home with an artisan, crafter, quilter, collector, or Japanophile and offer inspiration for a future project.

These sleeves are from a contemporary (1980s?) shibori kimono that was no doubt made for a formal event. The design was created with the shibori technique ("Japanese tie-dye" - see video below to learn how this complicated dye process is done.), and still has considerable pucker.

You'll see some embroidery as well - a full chrysanthemum done entirely with couched silver threads, and a partial mum done the same was on one sleeve edge. A tiny bit of black patterning can be seen at the edges - remnants of a black floral design across the seamline.

Lined in gold silk.

12.5" wide and 21" long. (Open up the seams to get two 42" panels.) Silk. Very good condition.
