This vintage Japanese man's kimono is a strikingly beautiful marine blue silk with five family wisteria crests. There's also white trim at the neck to simulate an underlayer, which adds another detail that give the kimono even more formality. You'll find some kanji characters stitched at the inside of the neck that are a list of numbers in Japanese - perhaps an inventory number if this kimono was part of a rental set. (It's quite common for the Japanese to rent full kimono sets for weddings and formal events.)

There are three main differences between traditional kimono made for men and women:
-Men's kimono have no opening under the arm like women's kimono do, creating a more square sleeve.
-Men's kimono are shorter so there is no extra fabric to fold over at the waist.
-Men's kimono are single color or have a very small woven or printed pattern.

See video below for how to put on a man's kimono in the traditional way.
