"Uji Onsen" Indigo Hanten

Very collectible indigo piece.

It's a worker's jacket from an onsen (public bath house), which were quite common in Japan until after WWII when new housing included private bathing facilities.

The lapel says Uji Onsen, so we're fairly sure it came from the city of Uji, just east of Kyoto.

On the back is the kanji for iishi (stone) centered in a hexagon shape associated with turtles (which symbolize long life), and below that are several symbols of rising steam, the well known sign in Japan for a hot spring or onsen.

Brown trim at the sleeve edges can be turned up to add a bit of color. Great for display but quite wearable.
