"Red Lobster" Man's Haori

A vintage formal man's kimono jacket (called a haori). The decorative lining on these formal jackets often reflects the hobbies, interests, or favorite myths of the original owner.

Striking, auspicious imagery on the lining of this silk haori jacket. Of course we see the curled red lobster - a symbol of longevity and good fortune - but don't miss the great white brushstrokes in the center which create a highly stylized crane - another symbol of longevity and good fortune. Behind both elements is a wide band of ancient kanji lettering that also suggests that this jacket was created for an important occasion.

Great black and gray tiny grid woven as the outer jacket silk.

We display these men's haori inside out to reveal the lining - normally hidden from public view when worn, and only visible if glimpsed as it was taken off or hung up.

All of the stitching is hidden, so these jackets can normally be displayed or worn (in the West, at least) either way. See the video below on how to wear traditional Japanese garments for men.
