This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We display these haori inside out to feature the lining when it is unique. Can you wear it inside out? Sure, why not. But certainly you would want to display it inside out as a decor piece.

This haori features a very interesting lining design, seemingly from Japanese mythology, of dancing "demons" (oni?) along with huge gourd shapes filled with what seems to be a poem or fable. We can make out the kanji for "sake", so perhaps there's drinking involved!

The outer fabric is a beautifully soft, deep tealy blue silk with some of the nubs we find with raw silk weaving. All of the stitching is hidden, so these jackets can normally be displayed or worn (in the West, at least) either way.

See the video below on how these traditional jackets are worn these days!
