Called a juban in Japanese, this vintage Japanese kimono was meant to be worn as an under layer. Juban are typically shorter than regular kimono so they make great bathrobes or long tunics!

This juban features a tone-on-tone weave of long, wavy tatewaki (rising steam) design with diamond-shaped mums filling the wide sections. A soft and drapey silk, unlined.

There is a loop sewn at the upper mid-back which would be used for an under-tie if the juban were to be worn under a kimono. It can be easily removed if not needed.

This kimono comes with the obijime cord shown to use as a belt for casual wear.

The over-collar (called an eri), is the only part of this undergarment that the public would see when it is worn traditionally, underneath a kimono. Eri are basted on top of a plain cotton collar and removed for washing or to be replaced for a more formal version when called for.
