Called a juban in Japanese, this vintage Japanese kimono was meant to be worn as an under layer. Juban are typically shorter than regular kimono so they make great bathrobes or long tunics!

This beauty came to us without sleeves - not sure why or how - but since the shoulder seam is several inches off the shoulder, what remains is still a kind of cap sleeve. It's quite long but can be brought up with a belt at the waist.

A striking, bright red silk with a complicated jacquard pattern that includes sakura (cherry blossoms) and other florals as well as manji a Shinto symbol that represents a harmonic interplay of opposites (not to be confused with the Nazi hackenkreuz).

There is no eri (over collar), which is normally added just before the kimono is worn, and is chosen as appropriate for the event, season, and status of the wearer. (Some juban come to us with eri attached, but this one did not. It's not required if this is worn casually.)

This kimono comes with the white sash shown to use as a belt for casual wear.
