Description

This beautiful vintage Japanese haori jacket is a light sky blue with dark indigo blue accents. It was created with a specialized shibori (resist dye) technique called mokume to get a woodgrain look. The pleated and bound with a tight running stitch so that only the edges are dyed. Click here to read more about this technique.

The mokume shibori technique used to create this design is evidenced by the hundreds of tiny dots from the needles used to stitch the pleats, but the result does look similar to the arashi "pole scrunching" technique, so we have included a video below that shows how arashi is done.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath.

We do offer haori himo - the little woven ties that are hooked to the little fabric loops that you'll find on at the mid-front of the haori - but they are sold separately. We'll select one that goes with this haori if you pick the Add A Himo Pair ($5) option above. To choose a pair of our fancier himo, CLICK HERE.
