Description

This listing is for a 3-yard length of vintage Japanese cotton indigo salvaged from a full kimono - but it has been pieced together from several 6" widths.

This piece includes the collar, gusset and trim pieces from a vintage cotton kimono. These pieces were basted together into a single panel to make the cleaning process easier. (Kimono are typically taken apart for cleaning, with a final rinse in the river (long ago), so piecing the smaller parts together was a clever way to keep them from floating away.)

The fabric is indigo-dyed cotton in a tiny grid pattern created with an ikat (aka kasuri) style weaving (where the threads are resist-dyed before weaving so that a pattern appears on the loom). See the video below on how Japanese indigo is processed and the fabrics dyed and woven.

There are some areas of mottling/discoloration where the collar fold would have been, so would be best if used in a boro or wabi-sabi project.

Length = 3yds
Width = 12in
