This listing is for a summer, semi-sheer version of the traditional Japanese haori jacket, meant to be layered on top of a kimono.

This summer haori is a double weave - black on top, red underneath - such that the red (see third photo) underside comes through to the front side and creates a red cast to the black. No patterning on this one.

The lightweight, open weave allows air to pass through the layers as a way to cool the wearer on Japan's warm summer days. These haori are nearly sheer so you can see the kimono (or bathing suit, or sleeveless summer dress) that you're wearing underneath.

The way these haori are woven creates a wonderful wavy pattern that moves with the light, creating an additional "cooling" imagery of a breeze passing through.

Firm, woven polyester fabrics were popular for this style because the stiffer fabric keeps the jacket away from the underlayer, allowing more air to circulate. The stiffness can be softened with a gentle washing if desired.
