This listing is for a pair of shinobigoma - horses made with hand-tied bundles of rice straw. One is a dark brown (somewhat unusual) and the other is the more typical light straw color.

These horses are a type of amulet for making a good marriage match but also promoting a good harvest and protecting rural animals.

This shinobigoma features a lot of hand-bound artwork - it's a true mingei (folk art) collectible.

Near Kyoto we have seen life-size versions of these made in the rice fields each year and then burned in the fields after harvest time.

The darker one is 6"x4" and the lighter one is 4"x2".
