This listing is for a single yard of vintage Japanese kimono silk.

This is a lightweight silk with a finely stenciled pattern of rural elements - hills, trees, flowers - done in a deep purple but then accented with silver. As hard as it may be to believe, we think that the silver accents were applied by hand with a thin, thin brush.

From the backside you'll see that even the base silk has had very subtle dye work, with a cream and slightly gray cloud pattern...

The standard width of all kimono fabric is between 13" and 14" and each length offered here is at least 36" - some are more generous cuts.

When we find vintage (circa 1950s but could be older or newer by two decades) Japanese kimono or haori (kimono jackets) in less-than-sellable condition due to fading, blemishes, or holes, we salvage what we can and offer it to artisans, quilters, crafters, and designers for project work.

So the fabric has been previously sewn and though we carefully deconstruct the kimono, previous seam lines, as well as minor blemishes, may need to be worked around or trimmed away. The inspiring designs, hand work, and the ageless beauty of vintage Japanese textiles make all the extra work so worthwhile.
