"Antique Shibori" Nagoya Obi

This is a nagoya obi where the width is folded over and sewn together for about two thirds of the length - this is the portion that is wrapped around the waist. The other end is left wide which allows for a fancier bow in the back.

This obi is quite old - the silk is very fine and of a quality commonly see in kimono and obi from the early 1900s. The marbled purple tones in the floral jacquard silk and shibori circles that create the patterning were done with two different shibori processes (see video below on this process).

Solid black backing on the wide section. There are several small holes scattered across the length and slight discolorations here and there, but still quite an addition to any obi collection. We don't recommend it as an obi to be worn except perhaps on a model for display.

See the videos below on a way to tie this obi or to learn about the different styles of obi.
