"Square Deal" Woman's Michiyuki A rich orange background with an angled rectangle pattern that looks like brickwork but could be anything.... The "bricks" were shaded by hand, and on the back the edging of a few have been embroidered with fine gold threads. An unusual folded collar, covered button snaps, and a square neck line. There is a hidden pocket closed by basting stitches (which are also along the sleeve edges) which were likely added by the tailor before the jacket left the shop - they suggest that the michiyuki has never been worn.
Michiyuki were worn over the kimono (which showed at the neck) on chilly days. Michi meants "street" and yuki refers to "going out". ______________________ Silk
