Description

This is a lovely and quite interesting summer obi. Lovely blue color with a wavy pattern at the bow end and the mid-section. The weave is really something to admire. It's a type of "gauze" weaving that is commonly used in summer kimono, haori and obi.

The weaving style is called "leno" and covers the "ro", "ra" and "sha" techniques of weaving with twisted threads. It's a painstaking and skilled weaving technique, as you might imagine. Click here to visit a webpost by John Marshall that describes this technique in detail.

This obi would work great with a summer kimono or a yukata. Lightweight and airy - perfect for your summer kimono ensemble!

This is a nagoya obi where the width is folded over and sewn together at one end. In this case, only the very end of the obi is doubled over and sewn closed.
