Description

This listing is for a vintage happi coat - typically worn for parades or festivals, and usually decorated with auspicious designs or kanji that refer to an event sponsor, community organization, or even the town government.

The background is a bright lime green with a white checkerboard motif across the hemline. A large, white logo on the back seems to include a cresent moon and an old-fasioned telephone receiver.

On the front collar is white kanji lettering that can be translated as "I love public phones" and "Japanese Public Telephone Association" .

Watch the video below on the Gion Matsuri - a summer festival in Kyoto that features huge parade floats pulled by (mostly) men in happi coats! The coats are also worn by observers along the very crowded sidewalks!
