Description

This listing is for a "kinchaku" - a drawstring purse or pouch that was (is) traditionally used by a kimono-clad woman in Japan. They're typically made with kimono fabric and tend to be for casual, rather than formal, occasions.

This purse looks like a boat overfilled with goodies when it's full! The bamboo woven basket has a boat shape that sits flat but rocks gently like a boat in the waves if given a little push. The silk fabric topper is red with a plum blossom pattern in blues, white and gold. The cords that cinch it together at the top look to be handwoven kumihimo braiding - suggesting (along with the boat shape) that this kinchaku is more vintage than any others in our collection.

Lined, excellent condition.
