This listing is for a "half underkimono" - a han juban in Japanese - which would be worn under a man's kimono. Remember, layering is quite important in kimono-wearing. There is an over-collar and a bodice in a cotton fabric. Contemporary han juban often have narrow sleeves of the same fabric as the bodice, but this one is different.

This han juban features a very unusual patterning in its silky sleeves. A two-tone blue grid separates the two different scenes, which are done in browns. Several western-style buildings seem to create a small city. We see smoke rising from a factory, government buildings with flags flying over domed roofs, and perhaps a school? Several figures stand in the foreground - one couple is walking their dog and another pair includes a small child. Airplane-shaped birds flying overhead. We wonder if the design was inspired by a foreign visit or would be an image of the reconstruction of post-war Japan?

The over-collar is black and the bodice is a medium-weight cotton.

If you don't have a kimono, consider that a han juban can be worn as a light jacket, cover up or casual top for men or women. See the video below for how to wear the juban with a kimono.
