Description

This is a vintage kimono jacket, called a haori, made for a man. The lining of men's haori jackets often depict a scene or motif that was of special interest to the original owner. We display these haori inside out to feature the lining when it is unique. Can you wear it inside out? Sure, why not. But certainly you would want to display it inside out as a decor piece.

This haori features a whimsical jumble of shapes, each filled with kanji lettering that we can't decipher. The shapes are reminiscent of tile games though many are in the shape of a gourd, considered a lucky motif. The colors are subtle and masculine - tans and browns.

The outer fabric is silk or perhaps a silk blend - it has a slightly textures raw silk feel with a bit of nubbiness. No family crest, which suggests this haori was for casual wear.

All of the stitching is hidden, so these jackets can normally be displayed or worn (in the West, at least) either way. See the video below on how these traditional jackets are worn these days!
