This listing is for a pair of vintage haori himo ties in white with yellow edging and, at the end on each tie is a length of puckered silk we assume is shibori, but it's quite tightly sewn so difficult to be sure. (We have seen other similar himo over the years that were shibori inserts, so we're fairly confident.)

Haori himo are the braided, beaded or woven cords that tie together at the front of a traditional haori jacket. They are hooked into the little loops on either side of the front collar that every haori has. Typically six to seven inches long and about half an inch wide, haori himo come in a surprisingly wide variety of designs.

Haori himo have many uses even if you don't have a haori jacket: bookmarks, zipper pulls, key chains, and more! (See video below for more examples!)

Haori himo - sometimes referred to as kumihimo - are created on a special loom with a macrame or braiding technique - see the video below on how this is done.
