This listing is for a formal vintage Japanese kimono made for a young teen girl. There are (and were) few opportunities for young girls to wear kimono after the war, when western clothes were more common. So most post-war kimono for kids were for summer festivals or for formal occasions.

This kimono is a bright, auspicious orange background with wide, solid diagonal bands alternating with bands filled with design: faux shibori dots, taiko drums surrounded by flowers, and sumie-style folding fans and flowers done in gray tones.

The fabric is acetate - commonly used in the 1960s and 70s as an alternative to silks for children's kimono - and it is in excellent condition.

This kimono is quite wearable - but please check the measurements against the wearer's measurements to confirm the fit before ordering. Kimono run small and remember that some of the length would be taken up at the waist when belted.

It does not come with a sash but one can be purchased for $10 when you order.
