"Fan-tastic Blue" Wedding Kimono (Uchikake) This is a vintage Japanese uchikake wedding kimono - a delightful collector's piece. This uchikake features a series of large, golden folding fans, called sensu, scattered across a bright orange background. Festive florals in orange, blue and green decorate each fan. That blue really pops against the gold and orange!Long blue tassels connect each fan... Tag sewn into the inside seam suggests this comes from a wedding kimono rental shop, but was possibly never rented! Heavily padded red hem. There are several types of Japanese wedding kimono (uchikake, kakeshita, shiromuku), but the uchikake is the heaviest and most colorful. It is meant to be worn on top of the kakeshita wedding kimono, and is not meant to be tied with an obi. Rather, it is draped over the shoulders and worn mostly for picture taking. These make amazing displays.
