"Kimono Shop #1" Shop Indigo Hanten
This is a shopkeeper's hanten jacket from a kimono seller!
The three-lined character at the back is "kawa", meaning "river" and the other character in the squares is "maru", meaning "circle". The name of the kimono company is Kawamaru Gofukuten. "Gofuku" means "Japanese style clothing" (in this case, kimono) and "ten" means "shop". The full name of the shop is written down the front of each collar.
The fabric is a heavy cotton, dyed indigo blue, and the sizing is larger than what we have traditionally seen, and the condition is quite good, so perhaps this hanten is not older than the 1960's. No way to know for sure.
There is some slight fading on the back and a repaired side seam - see photos - but it is still quite wearable or displayable.
