This is a dochugi style vintage kimono jacket, which crosses over in the kimono style (unlike the haori style which hangs open in the front). But instead of needing an obi, it closes with inner and outer ties, which can be tied loosely to allow for a more generous fit. Where haori are best for up to a size 12, dochugi can fit up to a size 16+.

The silk of this jacket is soft and flouncy. Muted purples and greens were used in this stenciled floral design against a cream colored background. A springtime garden motif that covers the entire jacket.

There are some light blemishes on one sleeve - see last photo - but given that a flowy silk dochugi is not very commonly found, we hope it will find a good home with an appreciative buyer.

Please note that the measurement given for the waist/hips is the full, end-to-end measurement around the middle. The ties can usually add 3-4 more inches of coverage depending on how tightly or loosely they are tied.

Dochugi are often worn by shop keepers or studio artisans in Japan, so they may feature tapered sleeves and cross-over ties to keep the wearer warm and the fabric out of the way while providing a tailored, professional look.
