Description

This listing is for two remnants of vintage Japanese cotton fabric that came from a child's kimono. Each panel is 41in long and 10.5" wide.

The color is dark, dark indigo - almost black - with a lighter blue design of cross hatches, rectangles and four-petalled flowers (or are the butterflies?). There are also touches of red and yellow along the edges of the rectangles. This weaving technique is called kasuri (or ikat), where the threads are patterned/dyed before weaving so that the design appears on the loom. (See video below for more on this technique.)

The fabric is lightweight and semi-sheer - see photo with hand held behind one layer.

The fabric is a bit stiff since it still contains the original sizing. Washing will soften that up. As this yardage was taken from a kimono, some of the original seam lines as well as stray seam threads may still be visible.
