Description
This listing is for
one yard
of vintage fabric salvaged from a vintage Japanese kimono jacket (haori). We think the fiber may be a cotton-wool mix, but in any case it isn't 100% silk. The texture reminds us of a vintage kitchen towel or apron. Sturdy and with a printed floral design straight out of the 1950s. Soft earth tones in a traditional floral spray design.
The standard width of all kimono fabric is between 13" and 14" and each length offered here is at least 36" - some are more generous cuts. Multiple pieces may be available and, if you're ordering two yards, continuous yardage will be sent IF it is available.
When we find vintage (circa 1950s but could be older or newer by two decades) Japanese kimono or haori (kimono jackets) in less-than-sellable condition due to fading, blemishes, or holes, we salvage what we can and offer it to artisans, quilters, crafters, and designers for project work.
So the fabric has been previously sewn and though we carefully deconstruct the kimono, previous seam lines, as well as minor blemishes, may need to be worked around or trimmed away. The inspiring designs, hand work, and the ageless beauty of vintage Japanese textiles make all the extra work so worthwhile.
