Description

"Okame" Man's Under Kimono

A whimiscal design of hundreds of little masks from the noh theater character of Okame, the Goddess of Mirth. She has a perpetual smile and a round, white face. She brings good fortune and happiness.

Bands of the masks alternate with a plaid band and one containing old style kanji characters. Great earth tone colors.

Under kimono (called juban or nagajuban) are layered under a kimono (and over undergarments) when dressing formally in a kimono. Although juban are often the more colorful and decorative versions of kimono for a man, only an inch of the collar would be visible to the public. The designs on the fabric are reserved for the wearer and whoever is in the room when he's getting dressed or undressed. This style of kimono is popular in Western countries as a casual robe or cover up.

See the video below on how to traditionally dress in man's kimono.
