"Shibori Sparrows" Man's Under Kimono

Beautiful silk kimono in a dark gray that fades at the waist to a lighter shade of gray at the bottom. It may look like a sign of wear but that lighter band around the middle is part of the dye work. We suspect it was meant to depict the horizon.

And the sparrows! An unusual and sought-after motif, these sparrows seem to dip and soar across the top of the kimono - and just one appears at the hemline in the front and in the back. Each bird is made with small shibori kaneko dots. There is a bit of spotting near the hemline bird on the back but it's otherwise in excellent condition for display or wearing. See video below on the shibori technique.

Under kimono (called juban or nagajuban) are layered under a kimono (and over undergarments) when dressing formally in a kimono. Although juban are often the more colorful and decorative versions of kimono for a man, only an inch of the collar would be visible to the public. The designs on the fabric are reserved for the wearer and whoever is in the room when he's getting dressed or undressed. This style of kimono is popular in Western countries as a casual robe or cover up.

See the video below on how to traditionally dress in man's kimono.
