Description

"Tiger in a Jar" Man's Under Kimono

Dragons symbolize yin (male energy) and the tiger yan (female energy). The dragon lives in the clouds while the tiger is grounded on the earth. They seem to do battle but their powers cancel each other out and provide balance. This makes us wonder about the tiger depicted in this scene as contained within an ornate jar.

Some blemishes near the collar on the backside and shoulder, see photos.

Under kimono (called juban or nagajuban) are layered under a kimono (and over undergarments) when dressing formally in a kimono. Although juban are often the more colorful and decorative versions of kimono for a man, only an inch of the collar would be visible to the public. The designs on the fabric are reserved for the wearer and whoever is in the room when he's getting dressed or undressed. This style of kimono is popular in Western countries as a casual robe or cover up.

See the video below on how to traditionally dress in man's kimono.
