"Shibori Gourds" Man's Under Kimono

Gourds are an auspicious symbol in Japan, signifying prosperity and often associated with mythology and deities. Click here for our reference on gourds. This kimono is a dark gray with a scattering of gourds done in two different shibori patterns - some were made as a single shibori element and others were formed by hundreds of tiny kaneko shibori dots. See video below on how shibori is done.

Under kimono (called juban or nagajuban) are layered under a kimono (and over undergarments) when dressing formally in a kimono. Although juban are often the more colorful and decorative versions of kimono for a man, only an inch of the collar would be visible to the public. The designs on the fabric are reserved for the wearer and whoever is in the room when he's getting dressed or undressed. This style of kimono is popular in Western countries as a casual robe or cover up.

See the video below on how to traditionally dress in man's kimono.
