This listing is for a vintage michiyuki jacket, meant to be worn over a kimono. A square neck line, inner ties to keep the hemline straight, snap closure, and a hidden pocket on the right front panel are the specific features of a michiyuki - michi means "street" and yuki refers to "going out".

This michiyuki is great as partywear.  The red and black is a classic color combo, but this jacket has so much more. Tulip-shaped florals seem to swirl in the wind against a black silk background.  And when you're dancing in the light, you'll see a series of large paulownia florals woven into the silk behind them. This adds so much additional interest that someone is bound to start a conversation.

Note the white basting stitches along the sleeve edge - this is how the jacket comes from the tailor, suggesting that this vintage michiyuki might not have ever been worn.

Michiyuki are a narrow garment, fastened with snaps that will open if the fit is too tight. (The measurement we give is the jacket snapped closed, so your hips and waist measurement should be several inches smaller than the hips/waist measurement we give.)
