This listing is for a vintage Japanese hanten jacket that would have been worn at home on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day.  It's heavily padded for warmth and is really cozy to wear.

The outer fabric is faded from age - that light, well-worn effect that folks sometimes pay extra for!  It has a small repeated geometric design, woven with the ikat (aka kasuri) technique. See videos below for how this is done.

But wait, there's more!  It's actually reversible, in that all of the stitching is hidden (and was done by hand). The lining is a flurry of white dots - perhaps like snow? - and though there is a band of fading down the center, it could still be worn either way.

There are signs of age aside from the fading that call for light repairs where stitching has come loose on a seam or a spot has worn thin and the padding puffs out a bit  - see photos.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath.

Going to display this haori? We offer wooden display rods in four colors to choose from. Add one from the tab below this description.
