This listing is for a vintage michiyuki jacket, meant to be worn over a kimono. A square neck line, inner ties to keep the hemline straight, snap closure, and a hidden pocket on the right front panel are the specific features of a michiyuki - michi means "street" and yuki refers to "going out".

This michiyuki features a set of traditional imagery created with a set of delicately-carved stencils - one for each color.  The main color is an indigo blue, though we can't be sure if it was fermented or chemical indigo.  The motif is rural countryside, with little huts and garden gates as well as pine, bamboo, and florals.

Look closely to see rose pink and dark olive green accent colors dotted here and there. And watch the video below to learn more about how traditional Japanese stencils are made and used.

It even has covered snaps - a sign of high quality and skill.

Michiyuki are a narrow garment, fastened with snaps that will open if the fit is too tight. (The measurement we give is the jacket snapped closed, so your hips and waist measurement should be several inches smaller than the hips/waist measurement we give.)

See the video below to learn more about the different styles of kimono jackets.
