This listing is for a vintage Japanese hanten jacket that would have been worn at home on top of a vintage kimono on a regular work day around the farm.

The outer fabric features a small repeated geometric design, woven with the ikat (aka kasuri) technique. See videos below for how this is done.

It's unlined except for some blemished cotton pieces at the shoulders.

There's a fun little patch pocket sewn on the inside of the left panel.

The sleeves are tapered and gathered at the wrist with elastic - which is in need of repair on one side. We called this "Granny's Jacket" because older women are quite busy with chores in rural Japan, so the tapered sleeves and elastic ends help keep the fabric out of the way.

Haori do not cross over or tie with a sash, like a kimono does - they are meant to be worn open to reveal a bit of what is worn beneath.
