This listing is for a vintage Japanese dochugi jacket that would have been worn on top of a vintage kimono on a chilly day.  

This dochugi is black silk with a pattern of little books, some open, some closed, but all beautifully decorated and floating around the jacket.

Fun orange lining.  There is a bit of blemishing on the front right panel - see last photo.  This could possibly be lightened up with dry cleaning but it can't be guaranteed.  It's slightly noticeable, but we feel the jacket is still quite wearable.

Dochugi jackets do cross over, like longer kimono, but they close with two fabric ties, one pair tied on the inside (to keep the hemline straight) and the other on the outside with a decorative clasp or tie.  Because of these ties, dochugi offer a roomier fit than haori or michiyuki kimono jackets.
