This listing is for the shikishi board as shown. Shiskshi are stiff, (usually) square, paper-covered boards used as a canvas for drawing or painting. Seasonal and nature motifs are common, as are deities and zodiac animals. They are often displayed with seasonal decor, given as gifts, or mounted on fabric to create a scroll effect.

This shikishi features a tribute to the mightly chestnut - kuri in Japanese - which are enjoyed as a roasted treat in the autumn. Three have been painted in their spikey shells and three others have been freed of the shell and await the roasting fire.

This shikishi is just under 10.5" tall and 9.5" wide, The backside is plain but covered with gold speckled paper. Gold trim all around the edges.
